River Kayaking

We are lucky to be blessed with hundreds of kilometers of fantastic rivers for kayaking right on our doorstep, not only that, we're only an hour down away from the Cardiff International White Water centre which provides reliable white water kayaking all year round.

If you want to come on white water rivers with us you'll need to have attended a good number of pool sessions before coming along to ensure you have all the necessary basic skills to handle your craft, we also head out to calmer open water to practice our paddling skills.

Local Rivers

There are a number of rivers close by which we venture out to paddle, these include (of course!) the River Tawe, Twrch, Nedd Fechan, Mellte and Neath. We also venture slightly further afield to the Usk, Tywi, Teifi and Ogmore. These rivers provide everything from Grade 1(flat water) to Grade 5 (challenging white water), meaning that there's something for everyone right on our doorstep.

Check the calendar for upcoming river trips and ask at our pool sessions for more information.

Weekend Trips

We occasionally arrange trips away to various paddling spots around the UK, whether it be for a surf trip to Newgale, or journey up to North Wales to paddle the Dee and Tryweryn, or to Dartmoor for the River Dart. If you're interested - make it known!

French Alps

Our more advanced kayakers head out to the French Alps in June to enjoy paddling fantastic white water and of course beer.

How do I get involved?

The best way to get involved is to come along to one of our pool sessions in either Penlan Leisure Centre on Sunday evenings between 20:00 and 21:30pm or Ystradgynlais Leisure Centre on Friday evenings between 20:30 and 21:30.

Check the calendar to find our next training session but please let us know beforehand so we know to expect you.

What kit do I need?

Well, that all depends what time of year it is! To get started a wetsuit and a windproof jacket will be fine, if you decide you like it we can help you decide what sort of kit you'd like to get to match your budget.

We have kayaks, paddles, spraydecks, buoyancy aids and helmets available to borrow, we also have a handful of old kags and a lot of our members have spare gear to lend until you decide you're willing to invest some money on your own gear... be warned... once you've caught the bug you'll be wanting everything!
